Griggs & Maloney, Inc., a leading, small business enterprise and multi-disciplined professional services planning and engineering firm is seeking a full-time transportation engineer in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The successful candidate will be responsible for project and client management, proposal preparation, contract negotiation, team building and mentoring, and assist with marketing and business development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects of moderate complexity.
  • Plan, schedule, perform, and coordinate engineering work primarily related to transportation projects including proposals, estimating, and conceptual design solutions.
  • Schedule, coordinate, develop, and review design plans, technical specifications, and contract documents for transportation related projects including geometric design, right-of-way coordination, storm drainage systems, utilities, and erosion control measures.
  • Prepare and administer bid openings, contracts, change orders, and invoicing for clients and projects.
  • Supervise and observe the construction phase of projects including conducting periodic project update meetings, observation reports, and provide technical engineering solutions for field identified conflicts with the design plans.
  • Communicate and effectively explain project components with project team members, client representatives, regulatory review agencies, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Manage client relationships and develop new client and project opportunities.

Desired Skills and Experiences Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Tennessee or ability to obtain reciprocity is preferred.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in working with municipal clients in transportation related projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with Middle Tennessee communities and regulators is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the TDOT Local Programs policies and procedures is strongly desired along with completion of the LGGM/ROW training and CEI Training.
  • Strong understanding and experience in AutoCAD and Microsoft Word and Excel is desired.  Experience in ArcGIS is a plus.   
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, project, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop strategies for client base growth in a competitive market.
  • Good communication skills, both written, oral and listening.
  • Good interpersonal skills as well as ability to work and interface well in a collaborative project team environment.

The successful candidate will fit the seller-doer model and be responsible for project and client management, proposal preparation, contract negotiation, billing and collections, team building and mentoring, and marketing and business development of professional services to grow the business.

  • Supervise and mentor project managers and other team members.
  • Schedule and coordinate design and production of plan documentation including subconsultants and team members.
  • Prepare and administer contracts, change orders, and invoicing for clients and projects.
  • Manage client relationships and develop new client and project opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related field required.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Tennessee or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in working with municipal clients in water, wastewater, water resources.
  • Knowledge of middle Tennessee communities and regulators is preferred.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Well organized with the ability to manage multiple team members and to prioritize work.
  • Ability to develop strategies for client base growth in a competitive market.
  • Good communication skills, both written, oral and listening.
  • Good interpersonal skills as well as ability to work and interface well in a collaborative project team environment.
